Carry on relegation — Open All R’s Podcast Tuesday, 23rd Apr 2013 23:42 by LFW Mark Lazarus, the scorer of the winning goal for QPR in the 1967 League Cup final, is the special guest on this week’s podcast. Lazarus, who reveals the players were not paid a single penny in bonuses for the success against West Brom at Wembley, spoke at length to the podcast lads about the day and his issues with the modern day game. Lazarus said: “It was a magical day all the way round: 2-0 down, winning 3-2, it doesn’t get any better than that. Our cup final was just getting there, it was beating Birmingham over two legs, when we went to Wembley and came in 2-0 at half time, other times Alec Stock would have done his nut and mainly have picked on me, but at Wembley there wasn’t much said. He said go out and enjoy yourselves, this is our day. “We played for peanuts, it was more than money in my day. That’s what has sickened me off a bit – you hear players who are sicking it off, bit tired, had a game during the week. Do me a favour, these people are on £90,000 a week. On the money they’re on today I’d have played a football match twice a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, every day of the week. Nobody seems to play with enjoyment on their face any more. “QPR were the heart and soul of me, I do think the supporters forget things. I don’t get very well looked after when I go over to QPR these days. I’m glad Harry is managing now, if somebody invites me over to watch a game or two then I wouldn’t mind coming. They used to invite me very rarely but it wasn’t like people remembered me.” Chris Charles hosts with regulars Paul Finney and Chris Mendes on the panel and guest journalist Rob Brennan in the studio.
